Baker's Chapel

Historic Sites, Monuments, Landmarks, and Public Art ()

Listen

First established as California Episcopal Methodist Church, South, in 1852, the church was renamed in 1857 for pioneer preacher German Baker. A cemetery was added to the grounds in 1860 and a Sunday school program was established in the 1880s. The original building was destroyed in a tornado in 1939, but due to World War II, church members did not rebuild until 1952.

The Chapel was established as California Episcopal Methodist Church South in 1852.
