Stork Club Mural
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
This mural depicts the early history of Port Stanley's beach, including the Stork Club. Originally named the L&PS Pavilion, it was the largest dance hall in Canada. From 1926 until it was destroyed by a fire in 1979, the Stork Club was the most popular attraction on Port Stanley's beach. Famous musicians including Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, and Guy Lombardo all played at the Stork Club. The dance hall could hold thousands of people, although dancing became difficult when 6000 people packed onto the floor.
