The Malcolm W. Martin Memorial Park was created from more than 30 acres of previously undeveloped land in East St. Louis. It opened as a public park in June 2005. The park includes the Gateway Geyser, a 630-foot water fountain that erupts daily at noon, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This dramatic landmark is the tallest fountain in the U.S. and the third tallest fountain in the world. The park also includes the Mississippi River Overlook, a 43-foot tall ADA accessible platform with an illuminated steel railing. The overlook offers an unobstructed view of the Gateway Arch, which is located across the river on the Missouri riverfront.

The Malcolm W. Martin Memorial Park opened to the public on June 18, 2005. It was dedicated in honor of Malcolm Martin, whose vision for the park led to its creation. The park became a reality after Gateway Center of Metropolitan St. Louis transferred ownership of the Gateway Geyser and also more than thirty acres of undeveloped land to Metro East Park and Recreation District.

The project was then funded and developed through a $15 million donation from the Gateway Center. These funds provided enough money to create the park and also to provide for ongoing maintenance. The park includes the landmark Gateway Geyser, as well as the Mississippi River Overlook, located on the park's West End.

The Gateway Geyser is the tallest water fountain in the United States and the third tallest fountain in the world, rising as high as 630 feet. It began operations in 1995. A significant landmark on the Illinois riverfront, it was intended to complement the Gateway Arch on the Missouri side of the river. The Gateway Geyser is a popular attraction that operates daily at noon for ten minutes, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, except during inclement weather. It also operates during occasional special events.

The Mississippi River Overlook is an ADA-accessible structure that is over 43 feet high. It includes an illuminated stainless steel railing so that visitors can safely look out over the river and take in the sights, day or night. The overlook offers an unobstructed view of the Gateway Arch. which is located on the opposite side of the river along the Missouri riverfront.

In addition, the park offers an 'Arch Cam.' This live webcam shows what is currently happening at the overlook. Thanks to this feature, visitors at the overlook can tell friends or family who are not present to tune into the webcam and watch them enjoying the views of the Gateway Arch in real time. The Arch Cam also offers live webcam access during certain special events, such as the annual July 4th Fireworks.
