Chantal and Tommy Bagwell Education Building, Kennesaw State University

Located on the Kennesaw State Univesity Campus, the Chantal and Tommy Bagwell Education building serve as Kennesaw State’s College of Education. The Chantal and Tommy Bagwell Education building holds the vast majority of the classrooms where Education majors will find their classes and learn important skills related to pedagogy. This building also hosts the Dean's Office and other administration staff related to the Bagwell College of Education. Today the Bagwell College of Education offers forty-two different degrees from bachelor to doctorate and nineteen endorsements, certification only, or certificate programs. The Chantal and Tommy Education Building offers an additional twelve general classrooms, two computer labs, eight model classrooms, two large student study areas, four student study rooms, and three academic departments.

While the Education Department started as a division in the very young and growing KSU in 1978 the Bagwell College of Education wouldn’t be made until 2015. In 1993 Kennesaw purchased an additional thirty acres on the east side of the campus, where new buildings could be erected to house the administration offices and the Bagwell College of Education.

The College of Education at Kennesaw State University would get its name in 1997 after Clarice C Bagwell, a long-time educator, and KSU benefactor, and her husband Leland Horace Bagwell. Their Son, Tommy Bagwell continued to support Kennesaw State University through scholarships and other financial support, the Chantel and Tommy Bagwell Education Building was named after them because of this continued support to Kennesaw State University.

The Chantal and Tommy Bagwell Education building is much more than just traditional classrooms, this building hosts the Interactive Research Methods Lab that uses the Hopscotch Model and artificial intelligence to guide students through the nine steps of designing and performing relevant research. Another lab hosted within the building is the Innovation lab where new and innovative pedagogy strategies can be created and tested, inspire new academic degrees, create alternative credentials, improve existing processes and facilitate a range of conversations with key stakeholders about drivers of change and the future of education. The Chantal and Tommy Bagwell Education buildings has one more lab to offer its students, the AVATAR lab was created to make an immersive, mixed reality learing experience where participating students can hone their skills and practice.
