Founded in 2000, Maritime Gloucester describes itself as a working museum, educating visitors about maritime heritage and stewardship. It features an aquarium, a marine research laboratory, an interactive marine sanctuary exhibit, and an exhibit on the area's fishing industry in which models, photographs and various industry-related artifacts are displayed. Visitors to the museum can also take excursions on the schooner Ardelle.
