Old Campground Cemetery, Sugartown
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
The Old Campground Cemetery, established in the 1820s, is one of the oldest cemeteries in the Southwest Louisiana region. The stop, on La. 112, is along the state-recognized "Myths and Legends Byway." Some of Sugartown's earliest settlers are buried there, beside the pristine Sugar Creek. The cemetery is on the National Register of Historic Places. There is a walking path at the site, as well as a replica of an old church.
There are two sections, the New Campground Cemetery and the Old Campground Cemetery, which is at the end of the cemetery's road.
