Since William Schroeder's residence is next door, there is another individual who lived right next to him, and was his neighbor; his father, Juergen Schroeder. But not much is known about William's father; but in describing his father's residence, we can get a clear picture of what his character was like.

Juergen's Son William Was His Next Door Neighbor

Juergen Schroeder was the father of William Schroeder; his residence was next door to his son. But before William's father built the house in 1870, his family, along with William, lived above their general merchandise store south of the residence. Until the twenty-first century, Schroeder's descendants would still live in the house and pass it on down to future generations of the family once the house was built; however, Juergen Schroeder, in connections with this son's business relations with the Hilgen's and their mills. Owned a portion of Washington Avenue from the front between the store and the portion of the street to his son's residence. As you can see, Juergen and his connections to his son also supported his family and, as a result, made them the most influential family in town, along with Hilgen and his family.

The residence was inspired mainly by a Greek-Revival structure when it was built. The residence was also made of cream city brick; the home is also known for its creative Victorian-inspired side of the residence, which layed on the south side of the structure. On the south side of the building are a bay window and porch consisting of cast iron cresting and elegant scroll-cut gingerbread, making this residence unique here in Cedarburg. Not much is known about Juergen Schroeder and what he did to impact the community, but we can see that we can get a pretty clear picture of his character here in town just by the structure and his connections with his son.
