For many years, this historic Crossroads building served as the headquarters of the J.W. Opie Brush Company, a manufacturer of street sweepers and janitorial supplies that was established in 1883. Since 1985, the building has been home to Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art, a contemporary art gallery that has hosted over 100 solo arts hows for both established and mid-career artists. The gallery was established by Sherry Leedy who continues to serve as the museum director and curator.

When Leedy established this gallery, it was the first of its kind inf in the Kansa City Crossroads District. A graduate of the University of Kansas and the Kansas City Art Institute, Leedy hoped the gallery could provide a space for regional artists while also supporting a neighborhood in transition. The gallery maintains a substantial inventory of works and offers a variety of services for area art collectors.
